Score Table

Official Scorer – The Official Scorer records the events of each game as they progress.  They are required to exhibit a full understanding of EBA rules, as they will often assist the referees in officiating activities.  Coaches or their assistants may go to the official scorer to request clarifications of a ruling on the court.  Before the game, the official scorer is responsible for confirming roster information with coaches on both teams.  Other score table personnel may request this information from the Official Scorer as well.

Stat Keeper – The Stat keeper is responsible for keeping track of basketball statistics during the course of the game, mainly for the purpose of records (for the coaches, the website, etc.)  This individual is also responsible for providing statistics to radio or media personnel – during team and media time outs - should they be present at the contest, as well as to coaches on both teams.  Stats may be recorded manually or through use of a computer program.  A basic knowledge of basketball is required.

Spotter – The Spotter assists the stat keeper in their recording of in-game events.  Commonly, the spotter will call out the uniform number of each player who touches the basketball during play, and the actions which follow (pass, shoot, out of bounds, etc.).  The Spotter is also responsible for informing the Stat Keeper of fouls and timeouts as they are called by the referees.  A basic knowledge of basketball is required.

Shot Clock Operator – The Shot Clock Operator controls the 24 second shot clock located on both ends of the court.  They are required to be alert at all times in controlling the shot clock, so that the players, coaches, referees, and spectators will be informed of how long either team’s possession of the basketball has lasted.  A knowledge of basketball is required.

PA Announcer – The PA announcer communicates with fans through a speaker system.  He will call out most of the in-game events as they occur (baskets, fouls, time-outs, 3D Light, etc.) The PA Announcer will also operate a computer which controls various sound effects and music, during and before the game.  He is also responsible for carrying out sponsorship obligations through a spoken advertisement or mention.  Other activities performed by the PA announcer include announcing the score, starting line ups, and promotional information.  The PA announcer must carry out these responsibilities in a way that promotes excitement, and enthusiasm for the game.  A knowledge of basketball is required.

Merchandise and Tickets

Host – The host works to sell tickets to fans who are seeking to attend the game.  They will also promote the team’s CafePress website to fans as they enter and leave the building, affording them the opportunity to use the CafePress page to order team merchandise on-site.  In addition, the host will promote camps and clinics that the organization will be running throughout the course of the year, providing fans with the necessary information on registering.  During the course of game-day, fans may approach the host in pursuit of a wide variety of information which the host will be expected to provide appropriately (schedule details, pricing, etc.).

Ticket Taker – The Ticket Taker receives game tickets from fans as they enter the arena.  They are responsible for verifying that each fan that enters the arena has purchased a game ticket (with the exception of players, coaches, team/league officials, trainers, arena employees, and people on the will-call list).  They are also required to appropriately provide information to fans and to greet them in a welcoming manner.

Sales

Sponsorship Sales – The Wizards are seeking energetic individuals with relevant experience to sell sponsorships to business in the New York metropolitan area.  Responsibilities include gathering and maintaining a list of potential sponsors and courting sponsorship opportunities to those companies.

Misc.

Game Day Maintenance – Game day maintenance personnel are responsible for keeping track of the basketballs used on game night and will also be asked to handle other equipment used during the course of the event.

Entertainment Coordinator – The Entertainment Coordinator is involved in the planning and execution of half-time and time-out events.  They work closely with individuals such as the PA announcer and the dance team instructor, making certain that music, announcements, and fan interaction contests are cued at the correct times.  The Entertainment Coordinator will work with other people (such as the National Anthem Singer) by informing them of when it is time for them to perform, and assisting them in the setup of their performance (providing the PA announcer with music, introduction, etc.).

Trainer – The trainer must be present on the sideline during play.  The trainer is responsible for recognizing, treating, and preventing the injuries that result from athletic activity.  They are required to keep track of all current injuries that any particular player is suffering, so that the necessary preparations can be taken care of before each game.  A certification in Athletic Training is required.
