Score Table
Official Scorer – The Official Scorer records the events of each
game as they progress. They are required
to exhibit a full understanding of EBA rules, as they will often assist the
referees in officiating activities.
Coaches or their assistants may go to the official scorer to request
clarifications of a ruling on the court.
Before the game, the official scorer is responsible for confirming
roster information with coaches on both teams.
Other score table personnel may request this information from the
Official Scorer as well.
Stat Keeper – The Stat keeper is responsible for keeping track
of basketball statistics during the course of the game, mainly for the purpose
of records (for the coaches, the website, etc.)
This individual is also responsible for providing statistics to radio or
media personnel – during team and media time outs - should they be present at
the contest, as well as to coaches on both teams. Stats may be recorded manually or through use
of a computer program. A basic knowledge
of basketball is required.
Spotter – The Spotter assists the stat keeper in their
recording of in-game events. Commonly,
the spotter will call out the uniform number of each player who touches the
basketball during play, and the actions which follow (pass, shoot, out of
bounds, etc.). The Spotter is also
responsible for informing the Stat Keeper of fouls and timeouts as they are
called by the referees. A basic
knowledge of basketball is required.
Shot Clock Operator – The Shot Clock Operator controls the 24 second
shot clock located on both ends of the court.
They are required to be alert at all times in controlling the shot
clock, so that the players, coaches, referees, and spectators will be informed
of how long either team’s possession of the basketball has lasted. A knowledge of basketball is required.
PA Announcer – The PA announcer communicates with fans through a
speaker system. He will call out most of
the in-game events as they occur (baskets, fouls, time-outs, 3D Light, etc.)
The PA Announcer will also operate a computer which controls various sound
effects and music, during and before the game.
He is also responsible for carrying out sponsorship obligations through
a spoken advertisement or mention. Other
activities performed by the PA announcer include announcing the score, starting
line ups, and promotional information.
The PA announcer must carry out these responsibilities in a way that
promotes excitement, and enthusiasm for the game. A knowledge of basketball is required.
Merchandise and
Tickets
Host – The host works to sell tickets to fans who are
seeking to attend the game. They will
also promote the team’s CafePress website to fans as they enter and leave the
building, affording them the opportunity to use the CafePress page to order
team merchandise on-site. In addition,
the host will promote camps and clinics that the organization will be running
throughout the course of the year, providing fans with the necessary
information on registering. During the
course of game-day, fans may approach the host in pursuit of a wide variety of
information which the host will be expected to provide appropriately (schedule
details, pricing, etc.).
Ticket Taker – The Ticket Taker receives game tickets from fans
as they enter the arena. They are
responsible for verifying that each fan that enters the arena has purchased a
game ticket (with the exception of players, coaches, team/league officials,
trainers, arena employees, and people on the will-call list). They are also required to appropriately
provide information to fans and to greet them in a welcoming manner.
Sales
Sponsorship Sales – The Wizards are seeking energetic individuals with
relevant experience to sell sponsorships to business in the
Misc.
Game Day Maintenance – Game day maintenance personnel are responsible for
keeping track of the basketballs used on game night and will also be asked to
handle other equipment used during the course of the event.
Entertainment Coordinator – The Entertainment Coordinator is involved in the
planning and execution of half-time and time-out events. They work closely with individuals such as
the PA announcer and the dance team instructor, making certain that music,
announcements, and fan interaction contests are cued at the correct times. The Entertainment Coordinator will work with
other people (such as the National Anthem Singer) by informing them of when it
is time for them to perform, and assisting them in the setup of their
performance (providing the PA announcer with music, introduction, etc.).
Trainer – The trainer must be present on the sideline during play. The trainer is responsible for recognizing, treating, and preventing the injuries that result from athletic activity. They are required to keep track of all current injuries that any particular player is suffering, so that the necessary preparations can be taken care of before each game. A certification in Athletic Training is required.
