News:
The Pro Exposure Camp held on 8/6/2011 in Westbury NY proved lucrative for the New York Wizards. In addition to having some of their already signed players “set the bar” in terms of pro ability at the camp, the Wizards have announced some contract offerings from this one day event.
Offered Guaranteed Full Share Wizards Contracts:
Nigel Byam – 6’7” St. Francis College:
“Nigel proved exactly what we thought when we began to recruit him several months back” Stated Wizards Head Coach Greg Cerillo Sr. “He is raw talent waiting to explode. Nigel is athletic, strong, a very capable outside shooter, strong defender, and a quality passer out of the post. His ability to play multiple positions will serve him well in our already strong lineup. We look forward to getting him into camp with our players and seeing what he can do. He should be a major contributor to our program this year.”
James Smith – 7’ Marist:
“What makes James so interesting to us is his ability to pass and be an effective scorer in and outside the paint” Stated Wizards GM Terence Blake “James can play and his length and athletic ability will provide us very favorable match-ups against our Northern and
Southern Division opponents. James was a legit DI scorer at Marist and has D-League experience to match! If he remains with us he should help us to our goal of challenging for an EBA championship.”
Long Island Players Invited to New York Wizards Training Camp:
Josiah Ellis – “Josiah is 6’3” and a strong player around the rim” Stated Coach Cerillo “He has played multiple positions throughout High School so his ball handling and passing abilities are strong. He matches up well defensively against multiple positions. He may just be able to give this team minutes. We will see how he does against our players in training camp.”
Cory Woodard – “Cory is a strong 6’ point guard with a soft outside touch and a strong knowledge of the game” Stated Wizards GM Terence Blake “Cory was with us for a bit last year and his teammates love him. When placed in the game he produces and holds his own. With the quality of our guards (Aubin Scott, Tamien Trent, Eric Ferguson, Greg Cerillo Jr.) some of them are sure to get signed someplace else and we will need someone like Cory to step in immediately.”
